Soft-Cover Bookbinding for Beginners
Sunday, March 12, 2023
11am to 2pm
inPrint Studio, 8a-58 Wade Ave, Toronto, On

$60 plus tax
REGISTER HERE

Calling all writers, hobbyists, and artists alike! Interested in learning some basic bookbinding methods to put together your poetry or loose drawings? Would you like to make your own sketchbook or journal? This class serves as a gateway to bookbinding and introduces you to three basic methods in which you can make a simple but effective book. Focusing on soft covers, we'll cover zine folds, pamphlet stitches and stab bindings, with participants going home with at least 3 new books to fill. These skills are easily replicated at home, and will set you up to learn more complicated bindings (because you're gonna fall in love with bookbinding!)
All materials provided. Suitable for older teens and adults.

Art Nights @ Arts Etobicoke!

Thursday, March 30th
6:30pm to 8:30pm
FEE: $45
4893a Dundas St W, Etobicoke

Click here to register for the Thursday Art Night

Art Nights are held monthly and feature guided arts instruction by a professional artist, along with light snacks and refreshments.  This is a great opportunity if you’re looking to try a new creative hobby or just want to spend an evening surrounded by art, friends, and creativity. Check out more information about this month’s workshop below!

Tickets are $45 per participant. Refreshments and art supplies included in the price. Proceeds from the event tickets go directly back to the community, so we can continue to offer free and accessible arts programs to all Etobians.

Spaces are limited. Art Nights will be held at Arts Etobicoke’s Storefront Gallery. No prior experience necessary.

In this workshop, participants will get a gentle introduction into the magic that is relief printmaking! The artist will share her ideas from her own practice in repetitive motifs and collaging within print, demonstrating carving and printing skills that are easy to replicate in a home studio. Participants will learn about tools and materials, as well image transfer, registration and printing techniques using soft-lino. Themed around Spring, participants will be encouraged to create a modular composition while experimenting with various decorative papers in a simple, not-quite-chine-colle trick of the artist’s trade! .

Mini-Books of Failure Workshop

11am to 2pm
inPrint Studio, 8a-58 Wade Ave, Toronto, On

$60 plus tax

inPrint artist Maureen Da Silva has long cultivated a practice of turning her failed works on paper into adorable and miniature hard-cover books, developing various mini-libraries to go alongside with them!
Done in German-style covers, collect any works on paper you *think* failed - whether a drawing, a print, or even maybe some writing! - and give it a new life as an abstracted miniature book. We'll supply paper for text blocks even if you don't have a failure at hand. Books can be left as is OR turned into a necklace or hanging ornament at participants' desire.
No bookbinding experience required, feel free to fail at making these books too, there's no judgement here as you are learning!!
Bookbinding tools and materials supplied, just BYOF (Bring Your Own Failures)!

All supplies, including screens to use in class are provided. Students can bring their own drawings ready to expose, or use provided templates to just get the hang of the process. Drawings should not have an image size bigger than 7" x 10" and should be black and white only, no tones or shadows.
